  • Decals on to of 3D cast material failing

Posted by Iain George on 16 October 2023 at 08:16

We wrapped a bonnet in a carbon fibre cast material (APA CW/CWR 3D), then applied a decal on top of it.

It has since started to fail. We subsequently were advised that due to the coating on this wrap material it is not suitable for applying graphics over the top of it.

Is this the general rule for all cast warp material, or perhaps just for this particular type of cast 3D carbon fibre material?

I have never heard of that.
I guess it depends on what their top coat is if it is a multilayer material.
I haven’t had a proper read, but their product info guidelines should cover what they claim.

A new one on me, and it may just be the way they are describing it, that does not make sense. but why does the colour of the vehicle shorten the life of the film from a 4-6 year cast to “short term” and how short is short term? 🤔

Sorry what exactly has failed? Is it the carbon fiber or is it the decal over the top?

I think a cut vinyl graphic has been applied on top of the wrapped bonnet and now the cut vinyl graphic is failing.
