Youngsters have used their creative talents to design a new sign welcoming people into their village. Pupils from Sun Academy Bradwell and Bursley Academy submitted ideas for the signage, which marks the entrance to Bradwell. Members of Bradwell Village Residents’ Association were awarded £2,500 from regeneration charity The Realise Foundation for the project. Students from the two schools gathered yesterday to help plant bulbs around the sign, which is located on the junction of the A34 and Bradwell Lane.

Association member Jane Rushton, aged 71, of Bradwell, who helped to organise the project, said: "A lot of places have signs welcoming people to the area so I thought it would be great if we could have one as well." "The two street signs on the junction of the A34 and Bradwell Lane were looking a bit old and rusty, which doesn’t give a good impression of our area at all." "We asked the children from the nearby schools to help us come up with a design, and we were really impressed with the pictures they submitted."

"Members of the residents association then combined three different designs to come up with the final drawing. The new sign looks lovely and cheerful and we are really pleased with the end result." "We want to thank the foundation for helping to fund the project." The sign was made by workers from PM Training.

Lisa Machin, a teaching assistant from Sun Academy Bradwell, said: "It’s great that the children were involved in the project from the beginning and I think the whole thing looks brilliant." Sun Academy Bradwell pupil Kendal Pass, aged seven, of Bradwell, said: "I like the colours of the sign and it will be nice when the flowers come in spring." Bursley Academy pupil Connie Greenfield, aged nine, of Bradwell, said: "I really enjoyed coming up with ideas for the sign and my picture had a butterfly on it." "The sign really stands out and it makes the area looks nice." "I’m glad we were asked to help plant the bulbs because I enjoy gardening."
