  • Wrap vinyl fail! Advice to repair…..

Posted by Nick Minnery on 13 November 2013 at 17:10

    Hi guys

A firm bought his van round to us, to see if we can repair a panel. I just want to point out that I DIDN’T do this originally! See attached

There are a number of reasons it could have happened, but I just think the wrong vinyl was used, and perhaps the recesses weren’t post heated.

Anyway, I need advice on how to go about it. I’m thinking, cut all the area of failed vinyl out, with a scalpel, and simply replace the panel with say, and inch overlap. I’m slightly concerned about using a scalpel, in case I damage the paint underneath.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

    Regards

    Nick

Out-gassing and possibly wrong stretching process. but out-gassing for sure.
I am not sure if all the black is print or just the tyre area, but regardless, its a result of the above.

Do not get me wrong, there is a list of possibilities that could come into play for that fail to happen, but the the popping from recess, de-lamination all the way down is due to out gassing. that print should have had up to 72 hours out gassing.

Cheers Rob, schoolboy error by the original fitters.

So, anyone any tips on replacing the panel/removing damaged graphics??

You are going to have to cut it.
Looks like you may have a sharp enough edge to use as a guide there, so you may not need to cut into paintwork, just along it.
Just pick a point on the radius and try to stay on it!

Use Knifeless tape for the overlap

Thanks for the advice Simon, will invest in some knifeless tape 😉
