  • would removable vinyl damage vehicle paint work?

    Hi All

I have a request from a customer who is starting a new business selling classic sports cars. He wants removable vinyl letters but he is obviously concerned about the paintwork. When I asked him about the paintwork this was his response.

Typically they might be on the car for up to 3 months. Paint finishes will vary, cellulose, two pack, acrylic or water based depending on history of vehicle. We can allow any new paint to harden for a couple of weeks. What is critical is that at the point of sale we can remove the material without adversely affecting the paintwork, preferably fairly quickly, although if we have to go over the panel with a light solvent, &/or the polisher that’s no great hardship.

Does anybody have some suggestions of what to do or not to do and what removable vinyl would be best and safest.

    Thanks All

    Cheers

    Warren

I think most good quality temp/removable vinyls will be ok for this. The main factor may be paint fade and also new paint it still giving off solvents for quite a while, even after being in an oven.

The removable stuff europoint sell is good and also cheap, we use it for a car dealer here and they’re happy with it.

    Thanks guys

I was just not too sure regarding the different paint types used? I guess they should be OK.

Self cling would need printing and magnets look cheap IMHO but suggestions non the less.

    cheers

    hi warren,

a large % of our work is main dealer motor trade short term point of sale projects.

we have always used mac tac 8900 range.

all vinyl can and will fade if left on any paintwork for long enough.

    hope the above helps.

why not suggest using correx complete with the message he wants fixed to the inside of the windscreen using standard suction caps? you can add a bit of his branding to up sell the product. that way he can get a large message out these without any harm to the paintwork..

    only my 2p.
