Would a AC’d Room help with material curling on a UVprinter?
Hey all,
I’m kind of new to UV printing, but I’ve been experiencing some problems printing roll-to-roll with MXM. During the day when the room temp is around 27-28c I get some light bubbling of the media which sometimes results in head strikes when I print for 6-10 feet long pieces, but if I only do 5-6 feet pieces at a time I have no problem.
Now when I print the same pieces overnight, when the room is around 22-23c I can print a 300foot roll with little to no strikes.
Do you think that the cooler room temp would help aleveate some of the media issues we’re experiencing?

i know that printers work better in the right temp -
Try to adjust the power settings on your UV lamps between day and night. I wouldn’t have thought 27-28c would have been causing such issues on its own??

I am not 100% clued on your machine but is your media covering the full bed width of your machine? if not try shutting down one of the vaccuum cells. this will increase the power of the vacuum where it is needed most. i.e. holding down the media.
as has been said, the room temp being cooler can only help you because a hot room, coupled by the UV lamps is going to have some effect on the media. when we printed on the likes of correx flued board, the board would rise in the middle due to the heat of the lamps. so we would run it using only one set of lamps.
not sure about what your machine has or doesnt have options. but try running with one of the lamps shut off. again, this will help reduce the heat on the media. -
Unfortunately the printer we have doesn’t have vacuum on the roll-to-roll ( which is very frustrating! )
As for the lamps – tried that, the ink on this machine requries decent exposure to the UVs in order to cure. If I go any lower the ink doesn’t cure.
The machine is the Oce 350gt/Fuji Accuity Advanced.
