  • Winplot changing vector slightly when importing

Posted by David Harwood on 7 December 2012 at 00:30

    Hi all,

I’m new to this forum and new to Vinyl plotters etc and this is all a big learning curve for myself.

I’ve got the Summa D60 which has been sublime to date, Iv’e been doing wall decors and recently started doing larger designs as they sell better.

Now when I import from Illustrator to Winplot, Winplot appears to change parts of the vector slightly and ruining the design at times, I’ve attached the image to show this ( original vector on right – Winplot vector on the left )

As you can see there is a slight curving on the bottom right where the things meet.
Is this something which can be sorted via settings or summa control center.

Or can someone advise on a similar easy to use software which can import from AI without changing the vector.

    Many Thanks

    How big is that decal?
I’ve never seen anything as dramatic as that using Graphtec cutter, the Corel Print driver or Cutting Master which came bundled with the Graphtec and which I now use.

Can you not cut directly from Illustrator? Sorry don’t use the software myself but thought I had read that you could somewhere.

my bet is the way it has been drawn and winplot has interpreted it slightly differently. or more likely its been vectored automatically from a bit map.

where its rounded off the corners it needs a control node at the point it changes direction

Thanks for all the replies, its much appreciated (even the joke ones :))

The decal itself is quite intricate and I have just highlight one area to show the issue at hand.

The Winplot program is a plugin for Illustrator, so I do my design on Illustrator as I’ve used this alot in the past and press Summa >> Send To Winplot and it exports to Winplot, but obviously in the process is changing something.

I’m not too sure how to adjust the control node or what it even is, so any pointers on that would be helpful.
some one recommended flexi sign pro, I then looked at the price (!)

I use Winplot/cut sometimes but within Corel Draw and I’ve not noticed any issues but I think winplot basically automates an export to eps/AI which it imports for cutting. Try exporting as eps or ai (use a fairly early version of ai) and manually importing to see if that changes anything, if it does you may want to try some different export /saving settings within Illustrator and even rechecking your objects. Looking at what you posted here it looks as if a cusp node hase become a curve. I’m using Corel terminology here as I am not familiar with Illy.

    Hello Again all,

Just thought I’d pop by and say thanks, as its not solved but I’ve got a workaround in place for the time being.
Got myself a trial of corel draw and the plugin within there seems to spot on and doesn’t adjust anything.

    Thanks Again
