  • window tints – sanding dot matrix

Posted by Gary Davis on 5 May 2005 at 15:28

    Hi,

looking to tint van windows and having read the demo on here and a few other sites, i have Q about the dots round the edge of the screen.

i presume the film will stick to this and not the glass and cause fluid to gather?
does the film go as supple as a cast vinyl?

some sites have mentioned sanding the dot matrix with 600 W&D, for thos who dont use vinyl?? What do they mean by those who dont use vinyl (thought you could only use tint film)? And by how much should you sand the matrix?
    any advice would be great!

    cheers

You don’t need to sand the matrix, except in a few extreme cases the film will stick over the matrix and onto the glass perfectly well.

The worst you will get is a very slight haze around the matrix, sanding will not really help this much.

My opinion, save time and just stick the film on.

I agree with archie; don’t even bother to try and sand the dot matrix, more likely you will scratch the window in the process.

You will find that some makes of car have dots that stand prouder than others, peugeot and citreon have large/ proud dots and you always get a hazziness.

you can also try applying a little heat diectectly to the film once it is applied and has dried out, but be very careful, otherwise you will burn it and have to do it all over again; costly mistakes, try on a couple of rear side windows bought from a scrapper for a fiver a go.

Trial and error, if its a market you are looking at competing in GET SOME TRAINING it soon pays for itself.

    cheers
