  • Windbreakers / Banners ?

Posted by simplysigns on 17 May 2005 at 09:48

Hi I’m looking for a supplier of some heavy freestanding posts to hold somebanners.

The idea is to break the wind for customers sat outside of a bar.

Aswell as the heavy freestanding poles does anyone think it would also be a good idea to use some sort of net banner to let some of the air to get through and make it less likely for the whole thing to blow over.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Thanks
    Simon

Whatever you do, don’t cut holes in the banner material. It reduces the sail area of the banner by only a very small fraction, and weakens the banner material.

    hello

We’ve just done several hundred of these things for a major brewer – i can advise you on the following

Make sure its fastened down in some form or that the bases are weighty enough to stop the things blowing over – consider either a huge flat base plate, the more surface area you can put down the better. You can be sure, it its not, the wind will have it away. Also try to design it using right angles – “X” shapes or “L” shapes in design work well.

Consider also – do the staff have to bring these in on an evening ? – who will bring them in ? Heavy base plates will take some moving. Why not sell it on a “semi permanent fixture” – bring it in after the summers over.

    regards

    Thanks signsleeds,

The semi-permanent thing sounds like a better idea to me.
Are these something that I can just buy off the shelf? it’s looking more and more that I going to have to get them made myself.

they could be made in 2m wide x 1m ‘modules’ with a 30 or 40 kilo base… not the easiest items to carry about last thing at night.

I suppose they could be classed as portable, if they are being used by a team of russian shot-putters.

As mentioned above, go for the PVC option but do not put the wind vents into them, it will only weaken the panels.

This isn’t exactly on topic, but in a way it is.
We are in the Prairies and we get a lot of wind. There is a company in Canada that engineers a banner system called Windfighter Banner Systems. They have pole systems and corners for banners that make the banners like a board looking. Not only that but they guarantee the system for 1 year. It is engineered to withstand 150km.hr winds. Imagine Halifax Hurricane

We’ve installed the Pole system and the corner system and customer love it.

    Easy sell to dealerships too.

This is my first post so I hope this works
