• Wind banner blanks

Posted by PeteMiller on January 9, 2016 at 11:07 pm

    Hi
We have had an enquiry about Wind banners.
That’s the type that are tear drop shaped and either stuck the ground with a spike or weighted down.
Where can we get blanks. We can print them up but not sure about where to get the post etc… Any suggestions would be great. Based in the uk.

    Cheers

They are usually dye sub printed, as solvent print can look a bit flat on fabric.

As far as I know they’re printed on a roll and then trimmed and finished.

As for hardware signwaves or ultima displays.

I’m sure James will be along shortly to tell me how it’s done, as they’ve just got a new dye sub set up installed.

    Hi

Thanks for the advice. I will have a look.
I assume a good quality flag material is all that’s needed. I suppose the hardware comes with templates for the shape of the printed portion

Thanks for the mention David and Rob…

We have indeed just installed a true direct to textile dye sublimation printer.

Many moons ago we used to print these on the HP latex and at the time we were told the latex machine with its drip tray could handle fabric which it did do, the only issue being the colours were always so washy and never had the punch needed…We used to get away with it but as Dye Sub came into light more we realised this was the best and only real technology to be using to print these.

As for the hardware, we source our hardware from the far east and to be honest it comes from the same factories as all the major hardware suppliers here in the UK its easy to tell when your shipment looks exactly the same as item previously purchased from these suppliers.

Finishing flags is something that has taken us a long time to get perfect and we have spent hours getting this right, our flags won’t be the cheapest on the market but will be one of the best manufactured, we are proud to say our items are manufactured here in the UK minus the hardware.

If you have not done flags before my advice would be spend some time getting used to how these are finished, I know when we were testing and working out best ways of finishing we got through a massive 3.3m x 100m roll of flag very quickly so be warned and prepared.

What I have found with the manufactured templates especially for fabric is that they have created these to take into consideration shrinkage when printing and don’t always work with your prints in the same way.

One last thing to remember is dirt on the floor. flags can very easily get marked with dust and dirt, not an issue for us as we can wash the fabric in our washing machine, bare this in mind if your design is white and gets marked your probably looking at a reprint as you can’t wash. (This used to happen to us all the time before we dye sub printed)

We should have our complete range available very soon…Been testing like crazy to ensure we have everything just right before we go to market.

    Many Thanks

    James 😛

I do the odd teardrop flag and found at an early stage in my business that it Is sometimes better to find a good trade supplier and get a trade price and put my margin on top, freed me up to do other jobs quicker and only had to supply artwork and job was done, just sat back and wait for complete unit arrived, I’m a small business so important to dedicate my time accordingly but different for all, hope this helps,
