  • will oracal 751 be suitable for applying to helicopter?

I need to supply graphics to apply to a helicopter are there any factors I need to consider ( not sure wether printed or just cut vinyl ) I seem to remember hearing about a vinyl designed to be used on aircraft. Or would something like Oracal 751 do.
    Thanks
    Mart.

i would have thought 751c was fine and i have used it on aircraft.
other points are if you are fitting your insurance probably wont cover it and a inspector must supervise the work and sign it off. and that’s not even commercial operator rules which are a lot stiffer.

Helicopters are grubby things, usually covered in oil, fuel and dead insects.

I envy you that job, I love helicopters (I did my PPL(h) in 2003), if you are close to the north of England and need a free assistant / tool carrier let me know.

When I learnt to fly certain maintenance could be done with the supervision of a pilot, but I am not sure if Vinyl would be included in that.

If I had to guess, I would have thought not because of the airflow from the rotor blades is very intense, so the edges will be very important.

There are very strict rules about things falling from aircraft (for good reasons).

Just to make me really really jealous, what model helicopter are you going to be working on?

On another note, when I used to fly a remote control helicopter I used to put vinyl strips on the rotor blades to balance them up and give a better indication of where the rotor disc was, but better not try that on the big one 🙂

    Cheers

if you can stick it on a car, a heli is no different
it dont fly high or fast (excluding military and very specialised commercial)

751 or any good quality vinyl will serve the purpose.

insurance issues only come up if you are fitting airside on a commercial airfield. no special precautions are required, just get the owners to sign you off, they are the ones that are ultimately responsible for anything that is done to their aircraft…

Thanks for that, it looks like it is going to be a print job for the versacam, so I will probably have to go for laminated oracal 3651 would this still be acceptable?
I have no idea what model the graphics are going on to we are only going to be supplying – unfortunately
    Thanks
