  • Why will nothing stick to this glass?

Did a job last week applying cut vinyl text and a graphic print to an old but standard sealed unit window.
I’ve done glass work in the cold & damp before where it’s difficult to even make the masking tape stick but this one was a real problem.
Went back today whilst dry and warmer and exactly the same. Neither masking tape or vinyl will stick. The glass has been washed, and subsequently cleaned with IPA. You would think it had a coat of silicone on it.
Got back to base only 1 mile away and tried the office windows plus a vehicle and masking tape & vinyl sticks no problem.
    Any ideas?

just been and asked the glass boys over the road,
a product called active glass may have been used and nothing is meant to stick to it. they have special silicone’s for sealing the frames.

Nano Ex – The worlds FIRST Nano Remover!
‘The vinyls come off the back window!’ Why? Nano coating. Even if you don’t know what it is you may know the problem.

Thanks guys. I have to say that I’m intrigued and want to sort this out for the future. If this had been a big job we would have been stumped.
Nano seems to be the buzz word right now. Nano this, Nano that, and now there’s a Nano cleaner! Where will it end?

Had no end of issues when the customer has ‘helped’ by pre-cleaning the glass with windowlene or similar. Turns it non-stick and is a real pain to remove the coating. Lots of soap, elbow grease & IPA/meths.

Now there’s a customer claim in the making, remove the self clean coating so you can stick vinyl on the window (with customer agreement) then a few years later get a claim off them for messing up their expensive self clean window. Think I’d be refusing that one!

I’ve been looking in to this and found that Nano coating products are a common upsell for window cleaners to make the glass hydrophobic.
So not only will it repel water and dirt but anything we might want top stick to it.
Can’t find any reference as to removing the coating as it embeds itself in to the surface. I would be interested to know if the JAG stuff actually works as this is likely to become a real problem for window graphics.
