  • Why is banner print so easily scratched?

Posted by Roger Clements on 25 October 2010 at 13:24

    Hi one and all,

Just a follow up to my recent banner print problems….. can anyone shed some light on why banner print (Versacamm SP 300v eco solvent inks)is so easily scratched and seems to take relatively little to scratch it?…..or am I doing something wrong?

Put your heaters up full then do another scratch test.

When I hem a banner I put old silicon backed paper on the bench to stop scratching with the banner face down but to be fair an hour or so after printing they do not scratch very easy.

Using Mimaki ss21 ink with 1st 2 heaters set at 35 and post heat at 45 and 300% ink limit.

    Regards

    Russell.

You guys are great……it looks like the temperature drop(outside/workshop not machine temps) has done for me this time then…..but with your help/advice and finding Martins tip on using Mr Sheene I’m hoping (fingers crossed) that this is now a thing of the past….. :thanks2:

We always liquid laminate all our printed banners.
In the long run, even if only used once a year a banner will pick up marks and damage. Protecting them this way keeps a customer happier for longer.
It’s a big selling point to us as most suppliers don’t even mention it.

We use Clearstar Clearshield semi-gloss available from Landor UK.
We roller it on with a fine gloss roller.
