why does the cyan head keep crapping out please?
Posted by Scot J on 10 September 2007 at 13:14A while back I reported the nozzles on my cyan head we’re cutting out in banks. It would usually start on one side – 10-20 nozzles, than spread across the entire cyan head. Sometimes an ink fill-up would fix the problem; but usually I’d have to pull the cover off the back and pull ink down using a syringe (hooked into the pipe before the pump).
This problem only seems to be getting worse and worse. When I print lots of blue documents, it will happen sometimes twice a day.
Any suggestions as to what it might be? There is still ink in the damper at normal levels, and there are never any bubbles in the lines.
Thanks in advance!

Not 100% but i think you may have answered this one yourself sounds like a pump problem the motor could be gone

Do the Cyan and Yellow not share the same pump? (I’m not really familiar with these machines).
If so, the yellow has *never* had this problem. Mind you, that pump is significantly quieter than the pump for the magenta and black.
I read something about the capping stations not having a proper seal and that this may also be causing a problem. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance!

posting other peoples forum links is not allowed… fyi
sounds like pumps or dirty heads to me., however as u have syringed it i guess that worked and plenty of resistance was there? If there is resistance then likely to be pumps, swap pumps pipes over and see if the problem moves to the other heads if unsure.
You might find broken off rubber squares in that area, that is another clue of them being worn.
The other thing it could be is damper based problems, but lets start somewhere.

I run a JV3 160S with bulk inks and had a similar problem with my yellow. Turned out the ink was off. It was a real head spinner though, replaced damper, o-ring, head cap, pump – nothing solved the problem. Apparently when ink is old or off it kind of curdles at a micro level and this clogs the damper filter and creates negative pressure in the head which reacts by sucking air back through the head nozzles. The result is as though there is an air leak in the system when it is in fact a clogged damper filter. Changing the damper may or may not work for a while, depending on how bad the ink is.
Of course your problem may not in fact be the ink, but it sounds like it.
