  • why does my PC600 stop half-way through printing?

Posted by David Arch on 27 May 2004 at 08:29

My PC600 occassionally stops part way through a job when cutting. It is not all the time but does seem to be getting more frequent.

Anyone got any ideas what it might be?

    Cheers

Dave, had a similar problem with the PC60 last week. It turned out to be the serial cable. Took a while to figure out, but once I’d replaced the cable, everything works fine again now.

Carrie also had the same problem with the PC600, again, the cable was loose and causing an intermittent fault.

As I understand it, its a communication error. You could try swapping the cable and if it still does the same, check the comm port on your computer.

    Hope this helps 😀

Yep as Dewi has said above it could be the cables, it was with us??? Check everything is plugged in nice & tight to their relevant holes? 😀

    Signlab user?

    Whatever.
Ensure the LPT port in the BIOS is not set to bi-directional

I don’t think (from memory) the PC600/ PC60 runs on any of the serial bus?

I had this problem printing and cutting through signlab, it also took 15 minutes to spool the info to the printer, changed to flexi and it prints instantaneous.

Serial bus 😀 Imagining Snap, Crackle and Pop driving round in a double decker with a PC60 churning out those plasticy freebies you get in the box 😆 😆

Just reread my earlier post, and you’re right, its a parallel cable 😳 😳 I’ve had one of those days where the phone hasn’t stopped ringing, customers coming into the shop every 2 minutes, a pile of work that never seems to go down and to top it all, a meeting with customer that required the tea & biscuit treatment! 😮 🙄 Over the moon to be busy, but I daren’t count the mistakes I’ve made today 😳

It could be that your parallel port is timing out. This occurs when your computer does not send any data for a while becuase it is busy. Try increasing your printer time out value. You can do this by going to the printer driver where you set the port location. The max value IIRR is 999.

    Hope this helps,

So thats what all those things are! I’ve seen that timeout thing a few times, but never really looked into what it was for. Thank you for the tip though Mike 😀
