  • Why does my 100% K change?

Posted by Warren Beard on 5 August 2010 at 15:32

    Hi All

I keep getting this issue and can’t resolve and it is a problem, I save something using 100% K and it converts to CMYK black which uses about 300% ink and floods on the vinyl so it HAS to be changed or causes major issues but every time I change it I find it has changed back when I re-open it.

    Using Illustrator CS4

    Cheers

Your not saving it as RGB are you Warren, that would change the values of cmyk.

No, and if it is RGB I change it to CMYK and it still does the same.

Got to go out now hope you sort it warren.
Try edit – colour settings – you can turn off colour management here or better would be assign a profile to that document – turn off colour management in that document.

it’s happening on more than one document though, it did it once before and don’t know how I solved it and now it’s started again 😕

I’ll keep trying but thanks anyway.

One company I work for sends art work ready files, their black come out as Warren has said and floods the vinyl, I just change the colour in signlab and print, so for me its not a problem, however it shows this happens with other peoples files that get sent to me. Rich

Make sure you’ve got preserve numbers selected in colour management for cmyk.
