  • why do i get white speckles when printing black please?

    Hi Folks,
Haven’t posted for a while so it’s beers all round for any help with my issue!

Recently acquired my Cadet 30, prints great apart from black. Any black print is covered in little white, grey ish speckles. This doesn’t happen if I do a 32 pass in the RIP, but if I try an 8 or a 16 I get a contaminated, white speckled look to the printed result. Printing my work at a 32 pass is just not quick enough for my large jobs. I know its not a contamination issue due to the fact of feeding the material through to a point that it hasn’t been exposed. I also use the correct profile, troop rip, uniform media, uniform profile. Print tests come out well also. Any help guys is appreciated, just wondered if anybody else has had this problem.

    Cheers………

Is this printing to canvas or vinyl?

Reason I ask is that specks in a print on canvas can be an indication of a manufacturing flaw.

Some canvas coming out of the States has landed here with the same issues. Its all been recalled from sale.

    ideas
try another make of vinyl it does sound like contamination is the printer actually clean under the cover dust dropping down, you are not resting the vinyl on the rollers at the back.
bad batches of vinyl are not unknown .
if printing a bit map you sure its not in the file.
riping at a very low res will change the appearance of colours.

Thanks for your replies. Printing using 3yr vinyl. Just cant understand why the other colours are ok. It prints 100% black fine at a high pass rate, bring it down and the print is speckley. The vinyl does sit on the rollers. I haven’t tried it with any other material, banner, canvas etc. The machine is only 2 days old!

if printing a vector fill black 100% K then just out of interest alter the colour to
    100 K
    30 C
    20 M

    and see what happens

you should be using the roll holders to support the vinyl away from the rollers

Nope, no joy. Did my 1st powerful clean. Changed media to banner with correct profile and it printed alot better, so I thought I’d sorted it. Did exactly the same print afterwards and the problem showed itself again. Pulling hair out to put it lightly. Changed the colour to 100k c30 m20, but still no luck. Looks like a phone call jobbie in the morning….

Try some ordinary white vinyl if you have some with the heat turned up
In fact turn the heat up on your print you are doing now you haven,t said the settings or type of vinyl IE make.

my thoughts is heat… if you got a good non-deflected head and your materials are kept about 20degrees in warm room, when you go and print your heaters reach somewhere around 40deg, some materials 50deg, what is it like?

Try different heat settings to see if it helps…
