    Hi,

I’ve been approached to make a KENWOOD logo from electroluminescant sheets, it’s to glow white + the red triangle (above the W on the Kenwood logo).

It is to be 900mm x 145mm which is a fair bit bigger than i’ve ever worked with the e/l material. Does anyone have any recommended suppliers for the e/l material or any tips as to the best way to make something this size as i’m not 100% sure on the type of transformer to use etc.

It’s to be used in a car boot btw.

    Thanks,

    Gareth

    Hi robert,

I’ve never heard of Luninart but the kind of thing i’m after is as thick as a piece of paper & comes in various sizes & basic colours such as white, red green etc.

This can be cut using a vinyl cutter and has electrical connections on the back, once these connections are connected via a transformer the material gives out a neon type glow.

    hth,

    Gareth

Why not use stand off letters and fold lumi wire around the outside?
Easy to use, cheap, lots of colours available and runs on 6v transformer!
check out http://www.maplin.co.uk search luminescant wire.
You will never use neon or led`s again!
    hope this helps,
    trev

Sorry mate.. that should have been “LUMNIART” 😳 😳
Tere i go again showing off with my spelling and puntuation.. ahem 😉

    anyways..
luminart, cant remember exactly the workings. but ill try..

its like a peice of clear 3mm perspex. you cut mat black vinyl as a panel and weed out the test/graphic. using a hand held or machine guided pump/syringe you trace the weeded out text etc it leaves a coloured tube like piping. “like a neon tube” (slimmer though) then you basicaly slide the panel into a light box of some sort.. and illuminate it.. the liquid tube has now set and with a back light glows like real neon.. not just as bright but very effective none the less.
im sure luminart do a trade service also.

as for what you mentioned above. why not just do what i said above with the luminart thing. use thin clear perspex or acitate.. create a mat black panel with graphic weeded from it. apply that to the face of the thin perspex/acitate and on the rear use rectangles of “translucent” coloured vinyl. covering the areas that have graphics/text. back light it and it should glow these colours..

knowing me, ive probably picked you up completely wrong. but i guess those are a couple of ideas to think about anyway 😆 .. 😕 😉
