I am considering buying a Roland Versacamm 64", the one with the new single DX5 print head.
I have discarded the idea of using the white or metallic inks, from other posts I’ve read that they give problems and some people have even reverted to CMYK.
My question is, should I go for CMYK Lc Lm or just CMYK. As I understand it, the light cyan and light magenta give better results but slow the machine down.
Quality wise I’d like to know if using the light inks there is that much difference in quality.
    Any help?

    Thanks

cmyk is fine for general sign work, but for photo work 6 colour is better and well worth it, the difference is in the tonal range and more realistic skin tones. (some epsons are 8 colour)
my soljet is 6 colour for that reason.
i don’t know that it slows the speed down or uses more ink but i prefer it.
for the faster prints you need 2x cmyk.

Thanks Chris, I think I might go for the light colours too. I feel that this way I can do both sign work and high quality photographic prints….

    Clive,

have the VS 540 with a CMYK setup. I do a lot of general signage, logos and vehicle branding. I do some prints for a local photographer and the CMYK setup is fine for me.

If you do a lot of photo printing work, or images with facial tones, then you may want to have the 6 colour option, if you do more general type signage then it may be better to get the spped from the CMYK setup.
