  • Which Vinyl To Use For Vehicle Wrapping???

Posted by matthew stratten on 10 March 2009 at 17:08

Could anyone tell me the best overall vehicle wrapping vinyl between:

    Hexis – Hexpress

    Hexis – KM9829

    MetaMark – MD7

I am completely wrapping our two vehicles and really need to now the pro’s + con’s of each…

    Can anyone help?

    Matt

    welcome to the boards,
You may find you get a better response if you say hello and introduce yourself first.
I haven’t used any of the materials you mention for wraps, so cant really give any informed preference, but it may be helpful to give us the make and model of the vehicles you are wrapping, which is an important factor when making a choice, of materials.
Are you using a printed design or just a colour change, is also relevant and what experience you already have may be an important factor

I have tried loads, and had loads of problems with many, Hexis fitted nicely but came with a KPMF laminate which I thought was strange and did question and was told was OK to use, this popped out on the side of a Combo, and we re did it in Avery 1005 – no problems then.

I have fitted loads and loads of Avery 1005 with the matched laminate and it’s nice to work with, but in the last year have had a few issues with it popping out. Only when film laminated though, even with the matched film. Liquid laminated or un laminated was fine. The Sky vans are 1005 with film laminate and they look good but some I have seen have also shrunk and cracked.

Metamark MD7 – was really hard to work with, so sticky and almost impossible to re position without it stretching all over the place. Didn’t want to use it again.

Recently we have started using the 3M IJ380 which is guaranteed not to pop out if you follow certain fitting instructions, and so far I have not had any problems, I have really stretched it into areas I would never try with other materials and it stayed there no problem. It’s not as easy to work with as the Avery though.

Tom, do you have the IJ380-cv3 yet? Its the best yet. Only just been released here, much easier to fit apparently.

I’ll be buying a roll when I get back from the UK.

    Welcome Matt,

I’ve used many, but settled on the 3M IJ180cv2. I have had a few pop recently on really deep recesses, so will move up to the IJ380 as the ‘blurb’ maintains if fitted ‘by the book’ it will not pop ever.

Some good videos around with a demo.

Not yet, I asked about it last week as my brother does the same in Perth, and was over here last week. He has used it and says its much easier.

3M UK had the details on the website, but when we phoned they knew nothing about it. I think Ozzy prices are much better than they are here though.

3M IJ380 is a very nice film to fit, i’ve been using in near enough every day for the last 9 months with no problems

We have used everything at this stage over the last 11 years and nothing beats the Avery 1900 with a DOL Lam combo for the price v quality line, the 3M controltac is great and the new one gives a great finish and is easy to use but mad price break, new Arlon is the same but a bit too grabby for our liking. In my opinion you can’t beat the 1900 set for price and for staying in the groves, as long as you print it right, wait before lam and use the correct process for the "re-cast".
