which vinyl can be applied to crash helmets?

hi lee, we have just started sponsoring a local lad in kart racing and one of the things we wanted to do was “dress” his helmet and put our name on it too.

we also were unsure so i emailed a couple of helmet suppliers and the outcome was very confusing and conflicting information so we avoided the situation

i wouls suggest that you too ask some helmet suppliers or even manufacturers and get direct answers

lee, there are some rules and regs with racing bodies as regards to racing helmets.

I am pretty sure you can use a 3M 7725 material, as it has been rated and approved, but I’d check anyway. Essentially, the law is to protect the racing bodies from litigation.

You’ll need to ask the karting association or drivers association for the ruling. You should have a standards body or association relative to your sport, They would be the ones to ask,although the driver should have access to the regs (a really thick book usually) that should give you brand names and what not ( usually avery900 or 3M 7725 from experience )

Used to do a lot of race cars here, and every association has the same requirements when it comes to helmets.

THeres always a question over if the glue etc deteriates the helmet, thermo plastic crash helmets & vinyl are a no no, firbre glass ones are normally not a problem but check as dsi said

i supply vinyl stickers to a well known club, and have noticed a few of the guys putting them on their helmets, where can i find out any info on the subject that might help me advise them ?

i’ve just stripped my race helmet stickers off with the plan to put my own design on, to be honest, i’ll say whatever i need to say to a spec guy if he asks. i’m strapped so tight in the seat that should i roll it i’ll not be banging my head on owt, and should the car be on fire and flames licking around my helmet (ooh er), the last thing i’ll worry about is a little hot drippy vinyl coming off !!

i guess the real problem could lay in bikers helemts, they’re not protected by any tin or a fancy roll cage so i guess the condition of the lid is more important.

Put the wrong kind of glue on them and IF it hits an obstacle it could just pop like a melon.
