• Which plotter?

Posted by Andy Gorman on 20 May 2004 at 23:16

I’m about to get a new plotter. I’ve narrowed it down to 2: the Graphtec CE range or a Summa D series. Apart from very slight price differences I’m interested to hear peoples’ opinions on these 2 models. Important factors to me are: after sales service, bundled accessories, also as I cut a lot of long length graphics I want something that tracks well without running off course. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I have a Summa D60 and have found that I neede to slow it down considerably (from 800 mm/sec) as this seems to be too fast scrunching vinyl (lifting off the platten in the middle sometimes etc etc.

Haven’t needed support of any type yet. Cuts clean smoothe curves and small text no problem.

Don’t know much about the wincut programe haven’t used it I run it through signlab.
Some probs setting it up my fault though had to set it to external dll for cutting once sussed no probs apart from the speed thingy.

    Otherwise very pleased with it.

    Hope this is of use

    Goop.

I have a one of the older Graphtecs and a Summa t series which also can be fitted with a drag knife holder. The Graphtec is better with small lettering and also has “tangential emulation” which is very good for thick stuff ie. reflective and flock, if the CE has this – go with the Graphtec, apart from a good cutter the service and support is spot on.

I notice that the Summa D series machine have the rear vinyl rollers to ensure tracking remains true… does the Graphtec CE series machines have this also, or something similar..?

Sorry to have hijacked the post, but I to am faced with exactly the same decision 😕
