which blade location on Pcut 630 should i use please?
Posted by Tark Malbot on 4 May 2006 at 16:34The holder has two locations for locating the blade holder. Which one should be used? The front one seems to hold the blade better but the rear one makes the blade line up with a white nylon looking strip. Is this strip where the blade should cut?
Thanks,

Hi Mark you need to have the blade in the back hole to cut
Dale

Cheers for that. I tried it in both but made sure the blade was at the correct length so wouldn’t go all the way through and mark the plotter. It always seemed to not cut square like the vinyl or cutting surface wasn’t flat. as it was only a small test square I turned the cutting speed down and used the rear holder and its blob on now.
Thanks,
Mark. -
Artcut 2005. Only got it set up last night mind.
Just out of interest why is there two holders and if you use the back one what is the front one for?? (?)
-
Stupid question but why cant you use the pen in the rear holder? Do you ever use both at the same time? And if so what for??
-
I don’t think its possible to create a situation for the use of the two together. you’ll always get the topside, of what ever you’re plotting &cutting at the same time, leaving the plot marks on the weed section.
How is ArtCut working for you? I know its early days for you, but I’ll be keeping a watch out to see if have any issues
I’ve had some major issues with it working good. I’ve read that a few others have had similar problems as me, and it seems that the issue only arises with users of windows xp. Are you using windows xp?

Yeah I am using XP. Only been plotting TXT at the moment to be honest and playing with cutting speeds, blade length and pressure. Still getting into it.

Choice, thats a start.
I’m assume you’re having no problems with your cutting from ArtDraw? I mean, if you’re able to cut letters, you aren’t getting that annoying habit/fault of not completing the print job. (it makes a start at cutting and then does its own thing by cutting along the lateral plot until it hits them red stop points at the end or until you hit it)
I know the cause and cure for that issue.
I love my plotter, its good value and reliable now that I have solved all them issues I was having.
anyway, I’m sure there are heaps of people here able to help.
Good luck with your activities

Yeah it did do that to me onece. When I first got the software working I clicked to test. It plotted a square with a circle in the middle and then zipped across the whole length of the plotter into the end stop. I was a little unhappy as there was no vinyl covering the whole length so not only did it waste a sectoin of vinyl but it marked the rule on the plotter too (when I was using the front holder)
I am also finding it difficult to judge blade length and pressure. I take it you will need to change the blade lenth every time you use a different thickness of vinyl but what about the pressure? Mine is set at about 120 at the min for cutting the crome. I had a little toss up between the length and pressure but it seems ok now. As I am only cutting small txt and not in a hurry I turned the speed down to 10 or 20 just to stop it ripping the viynl up all over the place. (:)

Im not quite sure about the specifics, but
The reason why it takes off on you is because of some vulnerable programming. It allows rogue communications on your com1 and com2 ports, and it seems to rogue even lpt1.
a bit of surgical registry tweaking, and the removal of contributing programs will fix that issue. if it happens again, let me know and I’ll try to explain / help
I’m using a relatively thick vinyl (Flex for material pressing), and it will cut nicely at about 80, but I’ve set it an extra 15 higher taking it to 95 (I’ve been operating from the premise that one should set the minimum pressure to accomplish the job {still think this is the best guiding principal}-but now I’m testing other pressures and results)
I’ve set my close to 0.5, and my sharp angle to 0.35 cutting letter size range at about 10 to 20 mm, and setting ALL page settings (the one in device setup and the one in output window and the create page size at the beginning) to match the width of the medium. The cutting speed is set to 40
Its doing a sharp job at these setting.
I’ve never used chrome, what sort of results are you getting with that
Blade length? was wondering where did you set that?
Got those chewed up paper blues too huh? here’s a check list
Lower your knife pressure, make sure you’re cutting over the cutting strip (back hole), make sure you’ve loaded the vinyl squarely and that its stretched flat between the rollers and I think you’ll be able to increase your speed to at least 30. Not quite sure what chrome is like to cut so I’m not sure about the speeds needed in relation to letter size. Normally, you should be able to cut 40 mm to 60 mm at 50 speed, everything else set equal. guiding principal –>as one lowers letter size, lower speed, close & sharp to suit and it looks like you’re fully aware of thatTo help me figure out what each does, take it to the polar extreme setting and cut (the highest and lowest). The contrast is most obvious.

Never mind,
I remember now (should have remembered about them arrows), I haven’t had to use my knife lowering set. its been working ok. (I think once you have a good set, just manipulate the pressure)

how do you setthe close and sharp angle?? I read in the back of the manual about changing this to get a better egde on corners bu it doesn’t say how to do it.
