Which airbrush paint can i use for vinyl banners?
Reading a recent thread about auto air paint made me think this was just the job for direct application to an occasionally used large vinyl banner I need made up for a project, but a reply from a supplier made me question this….

The only thing I can add is to make sure that your banner is enamel receptive.
You can only paint on certain types of banner material.
If you use the wrong kind, the paint will either never dry or flake right off if it does dry.
I know of people who airbrush using Createx or thinned 1-Shot lettering enamel, but since I don’t airbrush I can’t say which would be the right choice of paint.

createx works on normal vinyl But once the vinyl has been applied it never moves Unlike banners that flap in the wind Best to test some and see
Also maybe best if you slightly scuff the surface of the banner with fine sandpaper
To get better adhesion of the paint -
I just use some solvent ink from used Roland printer cartridges.

I use vinyl screen printing ink.

I use Sericol or Apollo Inks mixed with thinner in a regular auto/car type spray gun with compressor. so the airbrush will work exactly same principle.
the ink will flex and never chip or flake, regardless to the type of banner.
small cans of this stuff goes miles. Apollo are much more competitive priced.I’ve sprayed 10 no. 30ft x 6ft banners, completely colour changing them to customer spec colours and never had an issue, and they were up for an age, local to us…
in years gone by we would use same on curtain sider trucks, stenciling in the graphics with ink and small rollers.
