Where would the board members fit etched glass vinyl?
I know coloured vinyl looks better on the outside and there is a coloured logo that is cut into the design.
So can it all go on the outside of the window?

Depends on the area and shop/office. Can the little sh1ts pick at it on the outside? If not, sounds ok by me.

I always put etch in the inside even if there is coloured text/logo being added to it as well.

James, I believe etch is an interior film although I could very easily be wrong. I know people on the boards have used it on vehicles and not had problems but my worry would be that if it is an interior film and there was a problem after you had fitted it outside then there would be no back up from your supplier as you had used it for a purpose for which it was not intended. i always use to fit it inside like Marcella, don’t think there will be a problem with the coloured logo at all if fitted inside.

My intutuition tells me it should go on the inside as well but that was before I cut the job (2.5 metres of it) and relised I had forgot to reverse.

I phoned europoint and they say its ok on the outside so I may just have a weed at it before it goes in the bin 😕

Been there a few times with engraved material, the worst being when text is rotated through 90 degrees AND reversed plus I did the work in two halves and I did the second cut 180 degrees out!!!! At least you have a recovery plan…..mine went in the bin (recycle of course)

You should know by now that in this forum it is better to hold your hand up and admit you made a mistake, the truth always comes out in the end !!!!
I think if you asked most signmakers if they had ever done that and they were to answer TRUTHFULLY then very few if any would say no they hadn’t.

Off the topic a bit, but as this is probably the most common mistake within the sign industry (aside from losing scalpels) why isn’t there a feature within the production manager that after you’ve pressed the ‘cut’ button, a warning pops up asking you if you need to reverse cut this material? It could also be reversed to ask ‘are you sure you want to reverse cut?’ as amongst not reversing stuff, I’ve also cut stuff back to front by accident after leaving reverse cut function on 🙄
To the original question, as others have said, yes. If the customers asks why it’s not on the inside, I usually reply that it is due to the fact that the glass has a slight tint & this would give the vinyl a funny colour. Has worked out OK so far! 😛

I just flooded windows in a local primary school in the frost, its by the playground so i did it from inside……anyway playtime came and i was doing the top rows of windows and had done the bottom ones already…. went to my van and two little blighters had been trying to pic a small picture of a suburu impreza of my van….so god knows how long the frost would have stayed on if i had put it on the outside!

I’ve always used it on the outside, but it seems like we don’t have as many pickers over in my neck of the woods.
I usually do it high up, at eye level or on transoms tho.

I,m just off the phone to europoint I was trying to buy some more vinyl for windows.
I asked for plain etched but there not sure what I mean.
Is there a whiter version of etched glass effect vinyl or is it something else? Ive heard people taking about the plain one before.
perhaps its the stuff for lightboxes 😕

James, it may be down to different manufacturers, I have only ever used Europoint Etched glass which as you say is a sort of silvery colour. Maybe other manufacturers vinyl is more white, contact all the suppliers and ask for samples.
The other thing is to make sure the whiter colour is not Frosted crystal which is different from etched glass. -
James, when I buy this from metamark, ‘frost’ is what I ask for for the whiter finish, etch is more silvery.
just to confuse matters, there’s frost, dusted etch, silver etch, crystal etch 🙄 -
There you go James, Marcella has just said pretty much the same thing as I did so now you have it from an expert. As well as asking for samples for Etched glass ask for Frosted samples as well.

Hi James,
Please tell me who said they didnt know what you were talking about i will enlighten them !!! Etched Glass is only in silver and gold , Frosted Glass has a real glitter/sparkle to it and comes in white/pink/blue/gold/green.
Please advise.. :0)
