  • where can I source printable magnetic media?

Posted by David Hammond on 15 October 2012 at 12:00

I’ve got an order in for some Magnetic Signs.

I’ve just ran out of the standard .85mm Magnetic sheet I had, and I am now looking at getting some printable magnetic sheet in.

Any suggestions where to buy welcome.

I am running a Roland RS-640, and will laminate once printed.

Speak to Bisbell magnetic products in the UKSB listing very helpful.
    printing direct has its pitfalls.
sticking to the print bed ?? my sc540 is all alloy.
    head height
    feed calibration
clean surface of the media. plus need to increase the number of passes to get some quality.
you will not be able to cut shapes with your cutter

so i ended up with plain mag and stuck the normal print vinyl on it after printing.

I don’t print myself so can’t comment on the printable stuff personally but have read posts on here where people have had problems.

I can second Chris about Bisbell though, always been very helpful when I have spoken to them. Like Chris I buy the plain magnetic sheet & just cover it with what ever colour background I need.

Cheaper plain rather than white faced so if you are covering it with a print anyway the white serves no purpose.

    Cheers guys.

    I ordered from chris’s recommendation.

Got their vehicle grade without the white backing, will be here tomorrow, min order 5m which is reasonable, although ordered 10 and saved a few £’s

    quote Chris Wool:

Just so you know David the mag side is the side that stucks to metal objects & the non mag side is the side that doesn’t :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

Mine is always rolled with the non mag side facing up, think it is also a matt sort of finish as well.

i have printed it on a JV3-160S but I had to rip out the metal and made my own platern at the time lol. i was also on third party ink and running the heaters at max.

the UV we have works, I just have to use the cure power at max too to prevent scratching.

Have also used vinyl ontop of mag before also.
