where can i get paper for laminator?
Posted by Kate and Danny on 6 May 2005 at 11:50Hi, after some advice,
Just bought a laminator so we can cold laminate our vehicle graphics.
The handbook advises that a silicone cone coated release paper wider than the film be run at the same time from the lower roller.
Can anyone tell me where i can get hold of something like that. we have already purchased some cold laminating film from Victory.
thanks
kate

Its the paper thats at the back of ordinary vinyl , you can either save that or use the backing that comes with the lams (maybe yours dont have that type tho?)

I have been laminating vinyl paper and all sorts for 10 years and have never used a carrier on the bottom rolls, even when we use heat. If you clean the rollers down every week you wont have a problem. I use the end rolls of covering tape wound back on themselves so the sticky side is facing out, press them against the roller one at a time, this picks up all the bits off the rolls.

I get paper for my laminator online from Design Media Supplies. Dirt cheap and provide an excellent service.

I can not see that you would need to have that underneath, I threw out 50 metres of the stuff today, I do lots of exhibition stand graphics and use a couple of rolls of cold vinyl a week, my laminator winds the backing paper you are asking about onto a take up roller, I simply slide off and bin.
On a more serious note the tension when laminating is in the graphic being laminated and adding another layer is asking for run out and creasing, nothing more anoying than messing up laminating as it can write of a good graphic.
I reguarly have cold laminate run off the edge of graphic upto 40 m/m and it does not stick to or leave residue on the rollers. -

😀Kate, the problem with running a silicon paper on the bottom roller is that the graphic will slip and may cause a problem. I had a similar laminator that I have just replaced with one that does not require it.
I know that some daige brand of laminators use this system, but what most people use is a ‘backing dish’ system, where you have a piece of thin material (foamex) coated with a silicon liner (applied with photo mount spray) and they lay the graphics on these when puting thru the laminator. Resolves any issues with slippage because the panel is less likely to move in the process.
Just thought I’d explain another option.
cheers
