  • when stripping panels can i heat them without warping?

Posted by John Harding on January 29, 2007 at 9:01 am

A customer has a light box about 16′ x 2’6" the panels in it are acrylic flood coated mauve, the client wants a change of colour and shop name do I just through away and buy new panels or strip the existing and replace.

If stripping can I put some heat on the panels without them warping

    Thanks in advance

John I would be inclined to buy a new sheet of acrylic. The time you’d save would pay the cost of a new sheet and you wouldn’t need to worry about the finish. Acrylic scratches easy, so I’d opt for new.

But I’m sure someone will disagree with me :lol1:

    I agree with Marcie
I just did two boxes for a customer.
It was easier to throw the old away and use new. Labour vs material cost was too close. Plus the job will look much better.

    Yup, new panels.
Tell the tight ar$e that the existing have degenerated beyond it’s normal composition and that it’s inadvisable to delaminate and start again.

    (Bullshit baffles brains) 😛

Who would dare disagree with Marcella with sign UK on the horizon 🙂

I’d replace with new too. Time and Labour vs new cost of acrylic would not be much of a saving.. if any.

As well as being more cost effective to replace the panels don’t forget that if it has had graphics on before then you will probably still be able to see the old name once the graphics have been removed due to the fact that natural sunlight will have affected some parts of the board.
