I’ll be surprised if i get a stranger request than than this one for a while. Big thanks to John Thompson @ Think Signs for printing this over the festive period for me. Thankfully there was no one in it when i did the job. Anyone ever done anything like this before?

For me it has to be a toss up between a genuine London Routemaster that was owned by a private collector. I did this about 18 years ago. Or a mobile bathtub that I did about 5 years ago

We got asked to do a job similar to Ewans by a local undertakers. A young lady had passed away with a brain tumour and some of her favourite things were butterflies and angels. The problem was that it was very short notice and whilst we had previously measured the coffin and had the graphics ready to go unfortunately the young girl was in her coffin 🙁 I put on my best suite and went to the girls home where the undertakers closed the coffin for me. After fitting the graphics (butterflies & angels) her family returned and promptly broke down in tears. At this point I made a swift exit or I’d have been standing in tears beside them.

Without a doubt one of the hardest jobs I’ve had to do. It was however a pleasure to be able to help with her final wishes.

When I was working in the funeral game, there were a few companies doing bespoke coffins, I don’t think it ever really took off though. I suppose lead times were the problem. Most coffins can be delivered next day.

I like the quirky jobs, and those where you need to go and do some research to find the best materials or solution to a problem.

Here’s a quirky job we did for a local design agency.

Nice job Ewan, hope you used a 5-7 year minimum vinyl on those :smiles:

Something I did years ago….Not wildly strange but different from the norm…

Love the toilets. Think I’ll have to rob that idea for the office toilets

The Strangest jobs I get normally come via my older brother who is an artist.

This job was a gift Jim gave to his good friend, Mani of the Stone Roses for their world come back tour a few years back now.

The design concept is based on Jim’s artwork/design.
He gave me the brief on exactly how he wanted it to look and we basically did our best to implement it on the two guitars which he loved when he was given them at the start of the tour.

I fitted this a couple of years ago from a cherry picker, on the side of a section of an aircraft carrier that was being built on the Clyde.

    6m drops of 1220mm wide vinyl………and I don’t really like heights much.

    John

We’ve done a job for a ‘company’ where we installed their internal signs.
Been stood in their cash vault where we had to put a sign up on the side of the wall. Ladders couldn’t reach because of the stacks of 1m x 1m wire cages of cash in the way! So we stood on the cages to get to spot we needed (about 12ft up).
No idea how much was in each cage, but it’s got to be millions that we were stood on!!
Shame we couldn’t take photos, but it’s understandable given the level of security there. 🙂

Nice Mike! We didn’t get to work in the vault, but have done some work for a private bank before – had to do the work at the weekend, with 2 security staff with us at all times (well until they wanted a ‘smoke’ lol).
Oh and my office girl decided to call the work order… ‘Bank Job’….. and yes, the security staff read the job sheet!

John – WOW! (PS is it straight 😆 )

We got a call once from a lovely lady, who had an exhibition locally and needed a poster printing that day. We quoted and she was over the moon, couldn’t thank us enough, and emailed over the artwork and would pick it up on her way to the show.

The show was all about BDSM & suppression, the poster was all about the extreme stuff and how it was becoming illegal :blushing: :blushing: She was a lovely lady, if you bumped into her in the street you’d be non the wiser.

    Perhaps suppression is another thing….

We print for a security company, who work at a certain club in our area…. Oh the stories he tells us when he picks up his stuff….. Funny who everyone ends up in the office when he’s here… Lol

Going by the picture, i recon thats higher than ive had to work in a cherry picker over the years john.
It is bad enough working at those kind of heights, but every little wobble or gust of wind gives your confidence a little knock! 😆 😆

I like those Pantone toilets Martin, very simple and clean. Yet different.

We did it on tuesday. Body was in it by Wednesday afternoon.
Quite surreal doing it knowing someone was waiting for it!

A question about the Coffin jobs as I have been asked about this. What type of printer and ink is this done on as they are supposed to be bio-degradable and not use solvent ink.

I was told if it’s a cremation the print is supposed to be paper based so that it burns not melts and doesn’t give off fumes, and if it’s a burial then it should rot along with the wood. Wonder how many people actually follow those rules ?

Hi folks, long time no see.
This one must be my most unusual one, long before the computer age. I had a permit for the scaffolding that only lasted for 7 days so the job had to be finished on time come Hell or High Water. After the artwork was approved and the go ahead given on the morning I started the job my scale drawing disappeared never to be seen again. I had to hurriedly re-draw it from memory whilst sitting in the van. It never looked as slick as my first original draught but the customer never noticed. This was way back in Cape Town about 1987. :smiles:
