  • whats the best way of fixing locators onto acrylic?

As I’m typing this I’m thinking ‘Glue’ you Dumba$$, but we’ll see.

It looks like I have some built ups to apply to acrylic panels, whats the best method ‘Glue – Dumda$$’ for fixing the locator cups to the acrylic panel. Do I markup where they’re to go and then pilot drill prior to screwing them on or do I perhaps stick (no pun intended) with Glue as used to fix the studs to the built ups.

Yes I know I really can’t belive I’ve asked this either, still it is a serious – or was a serious question originally.

Btw if your PYSL then all this typing wasn’t entirely in vain.

    Cheers, Peter

Not sure if I follow you Peter
but it seems you want to apply acrylic letters to a panel using locators

Normally the locators are strategically glued to the letters
By strategic I mean where they will offer the best support

Presuming you having a plotter you can use a pen in the plotter and draw out your letters on plotting paper

The letters can then be placed onto your plotting paper over the marked areas

The locators have a little point on them. By pressing the letters onto the drawing paper itt will reveal the imprint of the point. Mark this with a cross.

When you have finished you will be able to offer up the drawing to the substrate (mask it down to stop it shifting about) and then you will be able to drill into the substrate at those points and then screw in your cups

I bet this is not what your after but Heh! it was fun going through it

Thanks for that John, you reply covered just about everything I was wondering about. So it appears I wasn’t being as stoopid as I first thought – nice to know.

Simon, I convinced myself self tappers would split the acrylic – time to experiment methinks.

    Thanks again, Peter
