  • whats a suitable material for skips?

Posted by dannyflint on 7 March 2006 at 12:36

Hi , someones just phoned. They have 20 skips, and they want a stencil making, so that they can spray paint their details on the sides of the skips.

Any idea which the best media is for this?

We have some METAMARK PAINTMASK but not really sure, if it can be taken off and reused after one spray.

Any help on this matter would be most appreciated..

    Thanks

    Danny

cheers shane, we have a small router.

I think he’s after a quick cheap solution, and that seems like we’d have to charge quite a bit, especially if he wanted the letters large

Anyone else got a solution using the vinyl cutter, not a router

i’d go the mag route, use the usaf stensil font if you have to (ready stensil !) or cut out of some thin foamex, wouldnt take an hour with a jugsaw ! just stick some cheap vinyl on it, and cut it out !

vinyl is a once only use tho danny, so over 20 units, the fourex would be better value coz you only make one. Got to be cheaper to make one for multi use, than 20 for single use. Don’t you think?

We have had good results by building up layers of vinyl.

Cut 4 or 5 layers of your image, apply them on top of each other whilst the 1st one is still on the backing paper, then cut your last image in reverse & stick to the sticky side of your bottom image.

Sounds long winded but it simpler than it seems & does work

Cut the graphics out of some magnetic sheeting, works great for me!

I have used magnetic material before too, it really is the only way to get the paint on without having the ghost effect on the edges of the finished job.

    Cheers

I use 1.2mm aluminium sheet and cut it out on a table jigsaw. And I charge them for it ! no cheap stencils from me as they do take a while to cut & file the edges. (Don’t want customer sueing me for slicing his pinkie open) 😮
