  • what vinyl is suitable for jetski wrapping?

Posted by Michael Szwacki on 15 November 2010 at 20:58

    Hello.

I’ve got jet ski to wrap. Customer haven’t decide yet – full color change or printing graphics but it’s only because I’ve told him I need to check what can I use.

Any thoughts what vinyl should I use??

Is the 3M 85 series will be fine for change color and IJ380 for printing?

    Thank you
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Only wrap the top of the hull, ie above the rubbing strip, the trailer and beaching will wreck the underside if you wrap it. I wrapped the nose of my last ski, although can’t remember what I used……. but don’t wrap beneath the rubbing strip.

    Nick.

Oh yes, I’ve already told him that as it is obvious this part will be wrecked.

Is that rubber glued or on some clips?

    Thanks anyway.

On some skis there will be an insert which will slide out. The outer section / housing is screwed with the screws being located behind the insert. Although some will also be stuck on with an aggressive black sealant. Reason being is that the hull will be in two parts and the rubbing strip covers the join.

If there is a infill which is a different texture or colour, look to see if there are joins in it. If there are then the likelihood is that you can slide it out then slacken the screws on the strip. It slides out by removing the caps at the back of the ski and sliding it out.

    It is Yamaha XLT 1200 – 2002
He wants trailer in black and hood in chrome, but looking at the pictures of it I won’t be able to do it in chrome unless anyone will point me to the nice cast chrome.
