what vinyl can be applyed to floors?
Hi All
Do you need to use special vinyl to stick to floors? I’ve been asked by a local DIY store to put some feet on the floor marking the way upstairs. The floors a standard lino tiles type floor found in most shops.

Hi Stuart,
you don’t need special vinyl but you do need to use a suitable floor graphics laminate. These are available from Spandex, Europoint, Allprint supplies, etc. It’s essential you check the liability/warranty issues of installing floorgraphics with the various suppliers and with your own Public Liabilty insurer in case someone slips or trips on them.
We use a 3 year life removable vinyl as most floorgraphics are only down on a short term basis.

You could use pretty much any vinyl and it will stick. Floor graphics are usually laminated with a thick, non slip clear overlaminate. Most decent suppliers will stock it. Otherwise your graphics will wear out in a short time.

We do a lot of floor graphics at railway stations and as John has pointed out one of the key factors is the warranty and liability issue, you wouldn’t want some one falling over because one of the corners has lifted.
What determines the life of the vinyl is more to do with the foot traffic. If you have a small 70cm graphic and 100 people walked over it, it may only get trodden on 20% of the time. If it was larger it would be more.

measure the tread
ie the width and depth
-and supply it the total size-the laminate for flooring is tough, but will scuff.
-if graphics are to be removed, then laminate with a lighter grade adheisive, as it is a biatch to not only get them up, but they will leave the glue
-plus if they are onto marble-yikes-temporary floor graphics -always always always
