What type of vinyl will stick (and stay stuck) to rubber?
Posted by Steve Smith on 24 February 2005 at 20:51What type of vinyl will stick (and stay stuck) to rubber? I ask because I have a guy who wants to put his company logo on the (welly) boots of his workers. Would I be right in thinking along the lines of Truck vinyl?
Thanks in advance.

some will stick too some extent, none will stay stuck.
create yourself a stencil from vinyl. stick it to the boots and ink in the stencil and remove. job done….
very little ink, very little drying time and the most durable print you will get under the circumstances. 😕

Thanks Robert.
Green wellies, Yellow logo. Will this cause any probs with inking on a design? -

now there is a thing nik! 😮 :lol1:
i always thought banner materail like on a truck curtain was a sorta rubber with some sort of fabric between. hence why i thought it would be good on rubber.
the ink i use is sericol… do you think this be a problem with rubber?
-
you’ll be using probably vinyl (matt or gloss) ink from sericol….i have tried that and every different ink ed has, but not one took a grip still waiting on feed back from a supplier !! 😛
thanks anyway 😀

thanks for the feeback nik, but surely it would have much better bite than that of vinyl? 😕
-
nope the vinyl ink scrapes off when dry!! 😕
751 won’t stick either and i give the rubber a good clean before hand 😛
will wait and see!! 😀

HI Guys and Gal,
The reason nothing is sticking is that Rubber wellies are a low energy surface , this stops acids , oils, grime etc from attacking the rubber but also stops adhesive and ink from biting in aswell!! Oracal high tack is a Solvent rubber based adhesive made for such surfaces , you could print a yellow background and cut out the logo for the wellies, worth a try maybe?

I wonder if that would cure a problem i have with a customer who wanted a permanent adhesive vinyl logos that would stick to his food bins, these are as big as pallets, about 4′ high with nice smooth sides that you would think any vinyl would stick to that surface. I think his bins are made of some sort of nylon, if you know what i mean, a bit like a greasy surface.
I have tried everything i can think off to no avail. I think if i can get hold of a sample of this oracal high tac it might just cure the problem & please my customer before he finds some one else who might already know about this high tac.

Hey Rob, what sort of ink do you usually use to write your name on your condoms? That’ll work.
Sorry. This thread was going so well until I turned up. 😳

We do a lot of work for yacht crews you know boat names, sail covers, t-shirts, jackets etc
Never thought of their wellies
My god I can see a whole new market opening up in front of me.

lj1600 , Those bins are likely to be HDPE ( High Density Polyethylene) and yes thats exactly what Oracal High tack was made for — wheelie bins is another common usage , can supply samples if you give you know who a call…
-
ed done a test with a few inks so nylobag stuck like @~”* 😛
i know it’s for textiles but it worked!! 😀 😀
i’m going to try the vinyl cammy mentioned as well though 😛Nik

I used Oracal 751 on my wheelie bin for a show I did and it is still there 8 months later.

I also put Nikolite on to stone(Granite), been there 3 years, no problem

What about the tyre paint, usually white but I am sure some custom car shop will have other colours, just a thought.

Hands up time, my first post!!
Just an inquiry if anyone knows of a suitable vinyl for application onto an inflatable rib/boat with a rubber substrate. The inflatable will need to be deflated with the least amount of wear/damage to the signage.
My initial thought is some type of high tack banner vinyl.
Any thoughts?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated
