What To Do? New printer, secondhand one or thow more money at the old one.
Hi folks. What would you do?
My mutoh vj1614 has killed its printhead again but with the new one in it is printing solid black with colourful borders.
According to the service manual and a tech (but only through whatsapp, He is in another country) it is the mainboard.
So before spending even more we are weighing up our options.The 3 options are:
1: Buy mainboard, cr cables, cr board, head cables, Hope that the new printhead hasn’t been damaged. That way I know everything electrically is new from the mainboard to the printhead.2: Buy a secondhand Roland vs640i and have to get it shipped out to Spain
3: Buy a new mimaki cjv150-160 with 2 years guarantee
Any opinions are appriciated.

Using it every day? If so, new with warranty and watch the stress disappear.

To anyone over here in Spain I have to say the service from TuDiras.com.es (am I allowed to put links in?) is amazing. We have used them for years but never expected this.
We said we needed it as soon as possible and I thought it would take a week at least (nothing over here is done immediately and never without huge piles of paperwork https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wtbQUaC9mE ). Their response was we could have it the next day if they juggled things around.
The technician who installed it was patient and friendly despite my faltering Spanish and the rush getting it here.

how long are the warranties of new printers?
What do they cover?This has been an interesting topic for me as im in similar situation. I also have a mutoh 1614. I totally understand the stress and dependancies we have on these machines and to take that all away would be amazing…..however my point is you can say that about anything if you have deep enough pockets.
My printer was used, ive had it 3 yrs now, so far changed the mainenance station at a cost of 800 euros.
Well i paid 2500 euros for the printer, 2 lots of inks and onyx. Head was a few years old. Now i know anything could go wrong but for the price is it worth chucking money at it. If this died tomorrow there are always a few printers around in the 2-4k range here.
Obviously buying a new 10-15k machine would be great but like anything new your paying a premium.
Do you not think it works out better value playing the secondhand game, running them into the ground and replacing?
At the end of the day what leaves you with more profit?

I’ve only ever sold 2 printers, both times when I wanted it to be somebody else’s problem. The last used printer I bought from a large display company down south was also not without its problems. They told me it was just taking up space as they had some serious kit in there,10 grand for the printer, needed another 3 spent on it to bring it up to a great machine, so maybe not entirely true about needing the space. If the printer works great, why would anyone sell? I know people’s circumstances or business direction change now & again but my experience is if it works fine you keep it, if it needs a repair which is economical, repair it & keep it. If the repair is looking expensive, sell it on.
