  • What Software will i need to make numberplates?

Posted by paulcornwall on 19 May 2007 at 19:03

Just bought myself a roland sticka, yes i know many of you think its a toy but i’m testing the water at the moment.
Is there a Software package that will enable me to do this?

    Hi Peter
It has’nt arrived yet but it comes with the standard Dr Stika Plus software. No doubt the software is going to cost a fortune!

Also if i decide to go down the printer route with a laser printer how would a £200 laser differ from a £500 machine for printing number plates?

Really sorry for all these questions. Hopefully the mods will activate my membership this evening so i can watch some demo’s. 😀

I am only aware of either the LG software for the OKI or software and printer from Signam on the market.

Never be sorry for questions, its the only way to find answers, and that’s what uksb is good at, I see you have full membership now, so probably watching the demos etc.

For number plates you do need to add some sort of id i think, on the finished product, a postcode at least, so although cut vinyl is an option, the small id text at the bottom of the plate would be a pain to weed.

Again I must advise you that the number plate route is a hard one to go down, and would suggest trying an easier way to make money.

Is it because oki supply the software with there printers that most go with them unlike a cheaper laser.
I just cant understand why buy a more expensive laser for low volume work, am i being dum here. 🙄

The OKI is the only laser worth buying that has the software you will need. Full stop. The Signam system only prints black and white. OKI is full colour and pretty good quality. If you want the names of people to talk to at OKI I can forward them via PM.

Peter is the Oki a dedicated machine for this, i’ve seen a few sites selling it for 349.99 is this right to you?

Seems cheap. Probably won’t have the software I imagine. I believe the software is around £300.00 separately. Is the £300 price for a new one?

If you are on a budget then I don’t think you need specialist Number Plate software. We have been making plates for 12 Years and have used Oki printers for the past four years, But have always used signmaking software
(Flexisign) as this is what we use day in day out and it can do so much more than the software just designed for plates.
The new Oki 5600 is not as good as the older models…they print to fast for the laser films and we have spent weeks messing with settings.
So the only advantage in using the plate software is that you’ve got someone to blame when things don’t work properly.
If we ask for advise then they always blame it on us not using their software
or the films we’re printing on.

Just one other thing Oki don’t make the plate making software. It comes from LG Signs but there are other versions around. If you ask anything from Oki they are only interested in if it prints on paper correct then its OK.

Martin..it;s true – dedicated software has been written to off-set some of the variance’s in this machine…if it wasn’t;t necessary ! then why would we have taken the trouble to do it 🙂

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it….. well it was !!! buggers at oki changed everything 🙂
