  • What’s the best glue to use?

Posted by Praveen Jayawardene on 27 April 2010 at 12:17

    Hello All,

Can anyone advise what would be the best glue to use to glue acrylic letters 10mm thick x 250 high to a marble wall exterior ? Has anyone had any experience with this substrate? Being polished will the glues grip?

    Polyurethane? Sikaflex 11fc
    Silicone
    Epoxy

    Appreciate your thoughts,

    Cheers,
    PJ

Evostik serious stuff for the bond and a few tabs of foam d/s tape for the initial grab.

OR, if the marble is polished & perfectly dry…VHB tape.

    silicon isn’t great – it’s not glue.

Araldite type Epoxy gets old and fails

Cover the backs with VHB (not too much – Expensive stuff) make sure its very clean & dry.

Thanks Guys for your valuable feedback.

I went with a product called sikaflex 11fc a high strenght polyurthane.Has a great bonding to all types of surfaces and allows movement in different temperatures.Great to work with and will hopefully last the time.

    Appreciate your help,

    Cheers,

May not be a huge benefit in the UK, but Sikaflex can move 20mm before loosing bond. A really great thing when you have high heat (and expansion) problems.

Sika (and VHB) makes me sleep at night 😉
