  • What’s in your toolbox??

Posted by Nathan on 27 December 2004 at 19:03

As I going to be purchasing some tools for the first time I just wondered what people had in their toolbox that they couldn’t do with out…

when you say tool box mate, what type of work do you mean?
    tools for fitting signs
    tools for fitting vinyls
    etc?

It would be tools for fitting vinyls, anything from measuring devices to tweezers.

There’s masses you can buy, but you don’t necessaryily need them all. I have a few pairs of tweezers, various sized knives, various sized metal rules, a few different types of squeegee (some homemade, some bought in) and a couple of pairs of scissors.

I’ve probably forgotten half of what I’ve got because I never seem to use much else 😕 In fact, most days I’d get away with a knife, scissors, a felt squeegee and a metal rule.

    Cheers, Dewi

    Why, Paul?
They are very absorbent when ya spill turpentine!
I also have AJ’s brushes, man they are great.
And I have worn out 2 Swirly-Qs in the past 5 years!
    The ULTIMATE brush!
I need to get to a meet to buy a new one!

all of the above but one thing i really find handy is a flexi ruler is so good when you have very curvy panels to measure it just follows curve of panel and it works a treat

    Silly Becky.
One must oil their brushes after cleaning.
    Keeps ’em supple.
Since they stopped making Sapphire Brush Oil,
    I’ve switched to Johnson&Johnson’s.
    Love….Jill 😉
(I wanna know what those corks are for!)

craig and rich just reminded me of two more must haves in my box…

glass “razer blade” scraper for window prep.

flexible straight edge for cuts on curved surfaces. (plastic ruler is good for this) i also use off cuts of 1mm metal sheet from our guilotine for this…
    very handy. 😉

    Hey!
    I forgot something too!
A good, changeable tip ratchet screwdriver.
(handy fro removing rivets when possible)
Nuthin like a good stiff screw.
    😉
And after the day is done, a screwdriver to drink!
Do you guys call Vodka & OJ that?

Thanks for the replies, for vinyl I’m thinking of going with the Oracal 751.

Would this type of vinyl be suitable for most jobs?

Is it better to stock Vinyl or buy on a need basis?

What are the most popular colours used?
