  • What roland cutter is the best one on the market?

Posted by baron on 10 May 2007 at 13:01

After all the trouble i had with the rabbit cutter, was considering one of the following:

    Roland CM500

    Roland color camm pro pc60

    Roland camm 1 pro 960mm

My main use for this is to make stencils, multipule copies of the same logo and needs to be exact, so accuracy is top of the list, any comments and sugestions please.

If you are just going to cut Stencils & Vinyl avoid the PC60.

May be worth avoiding the PC60 altogether (-)

More than likely going for this one, does anyone know if there is any drivers available for Flexisign?

I run Flexisign with a Graphtec CE3000-60. Flexi software includes the drivers for this and many more so you shouldn’t have any problems.

By the way, when I bought mine new about 18 months ago, from Granthams, I received a number of free rolls of Metamark vinyl a few days later.

My plotter cuts metamark really well and weeding is trouble free.

cheers Neil, but i’ve checked the version that i’ve got, and theres drivers for the CE1000,2000,2800 and 3000, but none for the 5000, i’m sure they do them, just my software must be a little to old.

If you contact scanvec and ask them I am sure they will be able to help you, you will probably find that the company that come and install your plotter will have the correct drivers and when they set up your plotter will ensure it is cutting properly from your software package.

Baron how did you come up with a Rabbit/Flexi combination? 😮

a friend owns a sign company and he got a new computer so gave me his old one, so it came with loads of logos, fonts and progams ect. i don’t even know how to use it properly, all i used it for is import eps, resize and cut, its prob capable of so much more, and its his fault i ended up with such a crap cutter, he said get a cheap cutter of ebay and he’ll give me his old computer, only to find out a cheap cutter is usless lol, least he can still cut me stuff in work until i get sorted

So what you are basically saying then is you and your mate that owns a sign company are using pirated software.

😮 when did i say that, he has been doing this for ages and being a legit busines i’m sure he is all above board, what i said isthat the software on the computer he gave me is way to complicated and advanced for what i need, and i prob never need to use what its capable of doing, and if new the setup i get does all i need then truthfully i dont need his old computer, believe me its sooooooo slow lol, but have to be greatful.

Well if the PC has been given to another person, the licenses go with that PC. It’s quite simple and fully legit so long as the installation media is provided too. I bought my cutter with a PC from a retiring sign maker, and I got all the correct discs and things. So long as the person giving the computer and software away doesn’t still use the same license key, all is above board.

If he has the dongle then obviously there is no problem Adam. It just seems a strange combination. Flexi can cost almost £3k, using it to run a cutter that cost a few hundred quid seems odd.

I don’t think it is unreasonable to establish somebody has legitimate software before offering help that’s all. I have lost count the number of people that have a Chinese Cutter & FlexiSign Pro. A friend of mine won a cutter on eBay recently & within minutes was offered illegal software from other eBay members.

What makes it more difficult is that fewer software companies are using dongles these days as there are less and less manufacturers putting parallel ports on system boards. I know you can get USB dongles, but everyone seems to be moving towards complex combinations of text based keys as when a particular dongle based piece of software is hacked, the best way to protect legit users is to issue modified dongles. Something that software companies are simply not going to do. At least hacked software keys can be sorted with an application update.

Got the new cutter a graphtec CE5000-60, OMG what a difference, it cuts perfectly, right down to the smallest of details with crisp sharp corners, got it all set up with any windows app eg:corel, just go file print and then it brings up its own diaglog box, and even got it setup with flexi so i can still use the multi cut options.

Got scared when it done its 1st test cut, and all the edges were as bad as the rabbit cutter, but two secs later changing the blade offset, its perfect, so so so happy 😀
