Hi, this is my first post on here so please be gentle with me !.

I currently have a uniform grenadier II printer which i have had for a period of 6 months, my workload is now far outstripping the speed of the machine and i need to either look for a second machine or a replacement faster machine.

I am printing in excess of 2000m per month and need a machine that is not only reliable but which can print at least 360x720mm resolution onto vinyl at a good speed.

I was wondering if anyone has upgraded from a similar printer, what they decided to go for and how they got on with it.

Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Russ

was faced with same position 12 months ago, with the "same machine".
after much a do, we kept our Grenadier but also took on a Roland AJ740.
the roland AJ is very fast, very reliable and coupled with Roland versaworks RIP, very easy to run.

Thanks for the incredibly prompt reply !!

I also posted this question in the Roland printer section as it is basically the same machine.

I have been watching a roland aj740 on ebay and was considering one, is the actual print engine a lot faster or does it just produce work at a higher square metre per hour due to it being a wider machine ?

At the moment the majority of the work that i am running is 1250x820mm panels on a 1260mm roll of material (unfortunately i cannot get this material any wider) and the images at 360x720dpi are taking approx 4.5 minutes each, any idea what the timings would be on the AJ740 ??

    Thanks
    Russ

sorry, but your other post has been removed. you are only allowed one post per subject.

personally, ide steer well clear of ebay when purchasing the likes of a printer. i actually wouldn’t buy anything from eBay that my business was to reply on. just my view of course…

the AJ is a a whole new beast altogether ide say… unlike the grenadier where you can run small things off here and there, the AJ requires to be properly setup/aligned and so on… once in place, set it to whatever print mode you wish and hit the button. it will print fast as you wish till the end of the roll…
ive seen us taking a day and a half printing artic truck wraps. mainly because we wouldn’t start a full side near the end of the day. by that i mean… we wouldn’t start a 44ft long side of a Lorry at 3pm knowing only half would be done by close because next morning theres the chance of colour/batch change half way through a side. so always made sure we had a clear run… then there is out-gassing time before lamination amd then trimming/finishing.
with the AJ we have an entire artic lorry truck wrap printed roll-to-roll and a morning, un-manned.
monster sized banners too… 6ft by 30 metres in one go… no sweat.
can print in billboard setting laying down print/ink bands of about 1.5inch thick in one hit…

grafityp are doing a brilliant offer on a brand new AJ740 for £21,000 i think… it was at signuk a few weeks ago but may only have been a show offer. that’s £10k off the original price from a reputable firm. one i would consider if were you…

Just a quick post because I was going to say the AJ-740 myself, the offer Rob mentioned is a good deal but it ends I believe the end of April, I would need to confirm that date though.

Basically trade a 30" or bigger printer, condition not a problem and you save 10k off the AJ-740’s price tag.
