  • what printer is best for static cling?

Posted by Margaret Ryan on 18 July 2012 at 08:22

Im just setting out so have everything to buy. Funds are limited but I was wondering if people could advise me what printer I should be looking at for static cling i was thinking 24" (i don’t need anything bigger at the moment) and it would need to print white ink. My limit is about £2000 so I would be looking at either a reconditioned or second hand machine. I have been looking at a roland bn 20 and the gerber edge (cant seem to come across any second ones for sale) are these the right printers to be looking at or is there another one I should be considering?

it is not easy, we use UV printer to print static-cling with reasonable results.

I printed Static Cling on my Solvent printer.

Just let the inks gas off before plotting them stickers out.

    my experience

solvent only for outside use as the ink sticks to the glass and not a high quality print, not tried but think the bn20 would print well but would still have the ink sticking problem. all still outside your budget.
    thermal no problems
a good edge printer is hard to find and above your budget

What about a gerber edge 1? I see there is one for sale on eBay at £1000

you have a lot of homework to do.
plus cutter + special software + some more foils

service for those machines is very expencive i think only from spandex and really needs to be under service contract, but they are generally reliable.

the fx has a sharper output.

lol Im just looking. I would love to have a gerber edge fx but can not afford one at the moment and to be honest nervous in spending that sort of money when im at the very begining. There is nothing to say im going to be successful in this business but am going to give it my best all the same.

Spending one or two thousand on a printer……..to be honest you should be subbing this work out………once you are spending 3k plus on subbing out is when you need to buy your own printer.
