  • what looks like watermarks around vinyl lettering?

Posted by Jon Fields on 13 April 2005 at 21:03

    Hi all
i have reverse applied some vinyl text onto acrylic clear sheets for a customer internal display..no probs..the customer decided to have a
a blanket of coloured vinyl behind to make the lettering stand out..
i decided to apply wet because of the size..since it has dried i have noticed
what looks like watermarks around the lettering..is this due to the type of vinyl used (polymeric) or the way it was applied..?

    Thanks

    Jon 😕

Jon, do you mean you applied the flood coat over the top of your text ?
If so, you will always get a thin silvery line around the text because of the thickness of the vinyl your text is made from. I’ve had customers comment that this actually makes a nice effect ! Theres no way round it anyway 😉

    Thanks for your reply..
yes that’s what has happened..but also some areas of the vinyl have “patches” on them as well..so im a bit puzzled. I dont suppose there
is a problem fitting wet like this is there?

No problem as long as the vinyl doesn’t have a water based adhesive – most don’t. You may find you just have to squeegie a bit harder to remove more water (specially round the text which traps the water in the gaps at the edges). It can take a few weeks for all the water to dry so dont panic yet !
