  • What is the advantage of dual heads?

Posted by Sean Foster on 4 November 2015 at 00:51

    Hi All,

I’ve been offered a cheap eco solvent printer which uses 1 or 2 DX5 print heads, it can use 1 or 2, or both if you see what I mean?!

Simple question: what is the advantage of using 2 heads (using CMYK) I’m guessing it is either faster printing or higher resolution?

Any advice or comments would be appreciated!

dual heads increase print speed by approx 15% but require more accurate alignment.

And also proves useful if one head fails. Mimaki JV5 is good for this as it uses 4 x DX5 heads!!

    Thanks for your replies chaps,

I won’t be running the printer day in day out, so I’m guessing a 15% increase in speed really isn’t worth the trouble using a second head apart from the obvious benefits of a backup, would that be a fair statement?
