what is a domed effect laminate please?
Posted by Paul Seamer on 18 January 2008 at 16:26Hi Guys,
Been asked to do a large job for a customer. So I sent a sample but they came back that they would like domed laminate? Basically to give a domed effect. Anyone heard of this?

Hi Guys,
Sticker works out 8cm x 7cm. Its not square but that’s dimensions. Never seen a domed or heard of a domed Laminate.

80x70mm is to big to do with the small sets it would cost a fortune to do lots.
its also a bit big to get the effect you get with say 25mm sq ones.
with doming smaller is normally better

Just had some doming done at Mockridge Labels. Customer insisted that his logo’s be domed along with small price labels. I told him they would be crap but was pleasantly surprised when I picked them up, they looked great.
They were 300mm x 200 ovals

Just as a guide I did an oval logo a couple of weeks ago which was 700 x 260mm which used over 5 cartridges.
If you want to attempt something as big as that you need some practice first, you have to work quickly in a completely dust free area and make sure everything is flat and level.
The trade suppliers tend to use a UV curing resin which is better quality than the doming kit material. They also work out a lot cheaper per unit if it’s a reasonable quantity.Steve
