  • what colour would suite this layout?

Posted by Neill Hague on 5 February 2007 at 10:54

    Morning all
I need a bit of help with an image please. hope I explain this ok.

I have created the attached image for a customer which is basically a copy of his business card. Originally he wanted me to print this to go on the sides of his van which is a dark red metallic colour.

Now he is asking if I can get rid of the black background & print it so the red paintwork colour shows through.

Is it possible to remove the black from the image, & print on clear vinyl.
    Would this look any good?

    Any opinions please

    thank you

    Neill

Neill, if you created it for him then you should be able to either delete the black background layer or just make it transparent. Next question can you print white? The only way I can see this working is if it is printed onto clear vinyl which means you need to be able to print white.

Thanks for the reply Martin, I should have mentioned that the bubble part is an image I bought from the Stoic photo website, this is already black.
I have put a black gradient layer on it (from black to nothing). I have then made a box filled it with the solid black & placed it next to the bubble image.

Is there a way to remove the black from the original image I bought?
I don’t know much about Photoshop only what I have picked up from this site & from having a play.

We have a Jetster XL printer unfortunately it does not print white.

    thanks again

In my opinion, I will save more time and hassle if I just re-design just the lettering trying to match as closest as I can the original design typeface and printing on a whatever color vinyl the customer wants, and then cut on a print-cutter printer or in a clear vinyl like you just said. I don’t think that it HAVE to be a perfect clone of the original, this is not Cocacola match, I gess.

    I hope this will help.

    Neill,

If you can manage to change the black background (don’t know whether it’s possible or not)….could you not match the red a closely as possible & print that onto white vinyl

I know you’ve mentioned that it’s metalic so I don’t know if it will stand out like a sore thumb or not

I would try doing this print and cut. By that I mean print the bubbles onto white vinyl, laminate then contour cut each individual bubble, weed, tape and apply as normal. The white lettering would simply be computer cut white vinyl lettering.

Printing onto clear is a non starter unless you have a system that prints white.
