  • what are the running costs of a MIMAKI JV3 160 please?

    Hi everyone!

Just wanted to ask everyones advice and pick your brains.

I have just been offered a MIMAKI JV3 160 Print & Cut combo with a Shiraz RIP Station. It is being sold by the company I use for doing any solvent banners, posters etc that my customers order. The machine is about 3 years old and I know the history of it. At £5000.00 I think it’s a good price. What do you think?

Our main business is as a clothing printers/ embroiders, however in the last year we have been selling quite a bit in the way of flyers, banners, posters etc. We have sub’d out this work as we do not have the equipment to produce the items and as it happens we make a good profit for just ‘Fowarding‘ artwork to be honest.

As we are selling more and more banners/ posters etc I would like to expand into this area using our own labour. We have an old Novajet which we used to use so we know the basics ( I think! lol) 😕

Could anyone tell me what the running costs would eb and any other information would be great.

    Thanks for the help!

wow… i might bump ur offer if you reveal it by accident 😉

I have same setup (except the plotter but have used the plotter elsewhere)… its a great setup.

Just remember that the plotter is a solvent, it will print posters onto special paper but the ink isn’t really designed for that. Its very aggressive, it will eat into a surface to stop it from rubbing off.

Shiraz is a good photographic rip, each material comes as profiled or you can download them from AIT’s website.

The price includes the plotter, very handy as we do tend to make large batches of vinyl stickers for two of our good customers. Our Roland plotter does this fine but the last batch was for a 2 word 2 colour job, so 2 cuts, taping then layering and taping again…. hassle and time consuming! With the solvent print and cut option it should be a piece of cake!

A couple more questions if you do not mind…..

What plotter software would I use as I believe Shiraz does not have a plotting option? (I think 😕 )

Also what will the machine cost to run per sq mtr?

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated!

Most Mimaki’s come with their own plug in for Adobe Illustrator or Coreldraw called Finecut……..or any sign software will have Mimaki drivers included.
