What are the best CMYK values?
Posted by grafixdepot on 22 February 2007 at 20:15What are the best CMYK values to get a medium gold colour. It needs to be similar to the metallic gold that you get with traditional signs for pubs.
Regards
Jamie

Hello Jamie welcome to the boards.
A simple answer to your question It cannot be done that easily. gold is not a colour as such, it has texture and reflections that only paint and or gold leaf, or something like signgold can reproduce, so cymk is not going to give you a result,

Hi jamie, what are you trying to do with this gold, a sign, some printing??

Thanks for the replies. I am going to re-produce a pub sign but instead of painting it make a digy graphic. I just need something that will be close to gold as you can get with CMYK.
Many Thanks

Jamie don’t be a wuss. . get your brushes out ! You can’t put a digi print on a pub sign, thats like wearing wellington boots to bed ! 🙂
There’s a pub up the road from me with a digitally printed sign and it looks so rubbish its unbelievable. ( but then it is a rubbish pub ! )
The only way you are only to print gold is with a thermal printer such as an edge.. but the gold foils come out too shiny and look like gold mirror vinyl !
If you’re careful you might be able to put gold leaf on a print !
