  • What am I doing wrong ??

    Hi Everyone,
Bit the bullet and got Signlab Euro for my Graphtec CE3000Mk2.

Now I did say I may have some daft questions…….

I have managed to do the test cut and set up blade depth etc.

I am struggling though to actually cut anything. I am trying out on some vinyl offcuts (120mm wide x 5 Metres long). I have done a small bit of text (with a web address on it) but for the love of God, I cannot make it cut. All I get is an ‘Off Scale’ error.

No doubt it is something really stupid that I have done wrong, but I am at my wits end. (hot) and I want to prove to my Husband that I CAN do it on my own (with a little help from all you kind people on the Forum) 😛

    Thanks in advance
    Dawn

Is it just this big job that gives you this error or can you cut smaller jobs like a 1 inch square.

If eveything gives an error, then the plotter may be on the wrong language. Can you try to set it for HL or HPGL as it may be set for GL or GPGL.
Or, try installing the Graphtec GPGL driver and see if that cuts.
You will find that driver under File/Install Drivers in Signlab under the Graphtec folder.

Need to find out if its a language or Size issue.
Can it cut a 1 inch square?

Is you plotters Origin set for Center or Lower Left.
Make sure it is set for either lower right or lower left, but NOT center.

How do I check how/where it is set??

Sorry to be so vague, but this is my first time ever with a Cutter – thought it was going to be easier than buying signs for events – beginning to wonder now 😳

    Hi Dawn,

to check where the origin is set click on ‘cut’ at the top of your page, then select ‘ plotting defaults’, then ‘set up’ (top right hand corner of the grey box), then ‘plotter options’. You will see an origin box, make sure the bottom left is selected, that’s usually the standard.

Also, check that your software is looking for your cutter in the right location. It may by default be looking for it on a serial port and your plotter may be on a LPT port. This can be checked whilst your checking the origin. Click ‘ports’ and you will see ‘port location’, try changing that.

😀 hope this helps and I’ve not confused you more!!!

    Any luck yet?
Can you cut a small 1 inch square?

i know this sounds simple, but if i try to cut something 3ft wide, on a 2ft wide roll, it’ll tell me the design is too big for the cut area, i hve to select the ‘auto rotate’ button first, have you done this ?

    Hi Dawn

You normally get an offscale message if the image will not physically fit on your material.

Make sure you are pressing roll 1 or roll 2 when the plotter starts up. It sounds to me like you have set it to sheet mode.

Any problems, phone one of our technicians on 01978 666700, they can talk you through it

😀 Hooray – Sorted, I think I may have a bit less hair now though.

The cause was that the Cutter had its defaults set slightly wrong something to do with the ROTATE command in the main settings on the plotter, hence even though I was correctly trying to cut, it thought I wanted to cut OFF the vinyl (or something like that).

Right here we go with a load of test cuts 😮 🙂

Stand by for another barrage of really stupid question 🙄

Thank you for all your help – it truly is appreciated 😀

    Best wishes

😀 Up and running now – Thank you everybody who gave advice.

Next question…. Where can I get hold of Graphics of Scooby Doo and other Cartoon Characters that I can use to make vinyl outlines of?

    Best wishes
