Wanting to upgrade to CS4 I searched the net looking for a deal and came across these guys. I didn’t know until after ordering but it comes from the states. I ordered it on Sunday and yesterday I received an email with a tracking number for Fedex which lets me track the delivery.

I have still yet to receive it but it is already at Stanstead airport.

So far so good so thought I would share.

I don’t know too much about this, but will you have to pay any kind of import tax to receive this item into the uk?

If you read the last post made by the forum editor it states that this company is not licensed to sell adobe products so not really sure how you stand Warren

well what could they do if I have bought it and am using it? If it’s a genuine copy then Adobe would have to chase them and not me I would think. If it’s genuine then there should be no problems, same as if I bought it out the back of somebody’s car 😕

I’m sure a large company like Adobe would have the site closed down so quickly if it was not genuine. People sometimes have bad experiences and they will leave bad and damaging reviews to try make themselves feel better and that’s what those could be.

or I am going to receive a bunch of lemons in the post from California 😮

I’ll let you know when I get it, hopefully I’m one of the lucky ones and the fact it’s arrived in UK already says I could be 😉

    cheers

I thought that adobe needs to be registered on line to activate?

Warren, I understand what you are saying about the reviews but the Forum Editor I would have thought would be someone that works for PC Advisor as it’s their forum, could be wrong though.
If it’s registered for use in the US don’t think that means you could use it here even if you popped over there and bought it at a car boot sale :lol1:

You should have to pay quite a bit in import tax and I believe VAT is also added at this end, sure that’s what happened last time I bought something from the states that was valued at over £18

Hope I am wrong and all is well but with that sort of difference in price you have to think that something is going on or someone would be buying truck loads of software and just bringing it straight into the country.

Warren Im sure your be OK mate I had a few problems activating a genuine copy of Corel x3 but got it sorted in the end. Corel were unhappy about where I got it from and proof of purchase etc etc .

    However a quick story
I wanted a pair on Nike trainers TNs a few years back in the day and the only place I could get them were JDs in the states, any way $60 dollars paid, got a letter from post office saying they had the package and there was dute and VAT to pay and a few other bits any way and this is true the trainers ended up costing me £178 for the trainers !!!
just needed to tell you all that was 7 years ago and I still have them.

They will probably mark it as a sample to avoid duty.

the latest on the tracking is that it has cleared the sorting desk and is in transit due for delivery tomorrow.

    here’s hoping.

Done that a few years back (bought some hockey skates), factored in taxes and VAT, but got stung by DHL’s handling fee 👿

Hope all is OK Warren, I tend to use e-costsoftware now……………

only a percentage of packages are checked by customs and excise.

John Childs and I imported 3 items from the states, 2 were delivered direct, no questions or pack drill. the third was held subject to a vat payment (as I am vat registered not actually a payment)
so some you loose and some you win,
Moral is, if you order trainers book them to your business, say you need them for chasing payments!

    It does.

I purchased cs4 photoshop online last month, from an aussie company. When I got it, it was sealed and in new packaging.

Everything was new, no question about it, but when I registered online, Adobe denied my registration about 2 days later because the software was being used in a country it was not initially delivered to (ie america).

I got my money back thank goodness, but only after threatening to expose the seller to Adobe on their pirate site.

Hope you are not in the same boat mate.

Interested to know how you go.

Peter, I thought the value of the item had to be declared and anything over £18 was subject to VAT and Tax.

I have seen company’s advertising they would declare the value as less than it really is so the buyer could avoid paying tax. I know I have placed several orders over a period of a week rather than order all at once to keep the price below the cut off figure.

i was thinking the country thing might come up….

i had to talk to adobe about our CS2 upgrade from Photoshop x. It needed to be pushed a bit but adobe where helpful and wanted to know where i bought it etc

It does Martin. But the value is only put into a very small box on a cluttered label. The reality is whether a busy/lazy customs officer looks at it.

I have imported quite a few bike parts from the States and sometimes large bulky, but low value items get charged duty and VAT, whilst small but high value items can get through unnoticed.

As Peter implies, it’s a lottery.

Well it arrived today no problem so good service on the delivery, now just to install and see if that works OK, had a quick look on the disc (which is brand new sealed in box etc) and can’t see anywhere about it being for US only or anything like that so hopefully no problems with that.

    I’ll report back once installed.

Here are a few sites that offer deals everyday on Mac software. Obviously you have to check everyday and wait for something you want. But I’ve gotten a lot of good deals. Some as much as 50% off. Not sure about the licensing in UK though. Might depend on the developer.

    Update…

Just received an email from Adobe thanking me for my purchase and for registering and they even giving me a free download as a gift.

I’m glad it worked out fine and hope others save too.
