i would advise on buying a template mate… very hard to get things just as you want them when learning something knew.
that said, you will probably have to have a program to edit/alter the template.

ill try elaborate later… gotta go out.

    Graham,

As Robert has stated, starting from scratch without prior knowledge to doing HTML/XML is a very large task to jump into. You would be best suited buying a pre-made template from one of the 1000’s of template places online. With this being said, the industry standard for web-design is Adobe Dreamweaver (formerly Macromedia Dreamweaver) Since the CS3 version was just released I am sure you could pickup the previous version for much less money now and still achieve what you want to do. Hope this helps.

Graham, there are quite a few programs about you can use for web design that require absolutely no knowledge of any programing language what so ever. I use to use a program called netobjects fussion, they are up to version 10 now I believe. It is all drag and drop so it is very easy to use.
You could also have a look at some of the hosting companies as a lot of them offer packages where you can buy a domain name and then build and host the site using their provided software.

Just out of interest why not pay some one to do it? If you really want to get into it something like Dreamweaver is good, i also believe Microsoft have just released some new (good) web authoring packages (not front-page).

Or another maybe better route would be to get some webspace that has the option to pre-install some ready made packages like wordpress.

    Graham Stewart,
I carve stones for a living and use the VMP software to do my design work. I recently went through a divorce and lost the dongle key to my ex.
I am looking for a way to get another one without having to buy it full price from VMP…and I agree with your opinion of them, but already know the program. If you’re interested in selling your dongle key and program, let me know.

Oops Tony, you need to drop the full stop after uk… http://www.patiola.co.uk I like your site – simple and functional.

Some of these programs are great, they require no html coding knowledge at all, which is just as well for me 🙄 I use an oldie called CoolPage Pro, just another WYSIWYG drag and drop webpage maker 😀
