Wall Saw Help
Posted by Andy Gleeson on 6 July 2009 at 13:11Hi.
I’m looking to get a wall saw and was wondering if anyone could tell me how small you can cut acrylic or wood on it.

Your best bet would probably be to contact some of the suppliers and ask them, reason I say that is because it is probably going to depend on a few different things which may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Think the smallest I would be able to cut on mine would be about a foot in length, maybe a little more but certainly not less, the reason for this is down to the spacing between the rollers at the bottom that the material moves along as you cut. Any less than about a foot and the material would be pivoting on one roller so you wouldn’t get a straight cut. Height wise it’s just down to what I can safely hold or push through.
Other thing to consider is that it is unlikely that you will be able to cut both wood and acrylic with the same blade, acrylic is best cut with a negative rake blade the same as you would use for aluminium. -
a bit off topic i know… have you had a look at a Sawtrax yet?
i considered buying one some years ago from the states but went against it and bought something else at the time. great bit of kit with many easy snap on extras. ide say its more of a sign makers tool as opposed to the likes of some of the specialists wall saws on the market that you would see in an acrylic suppliers warehouse, but well worth considering for an all round purpose machine.smallest i have seen anything being cut on one of the big ones has been about A4. I think your obviously limited to the area the clamps/grips hold the substrate during cutting. if in deed the model has any…
if the work is always lots and lots of small peices then i guess a flatbed saw with vaccuum bed would be better but i think your going into crazy money there…
if its just for a single order, but a big one then maybe speak to one of the trade router suppliers to do you a quote on service only if your supplying the substrate direct? or… buy a router… buy a second user AXYZ millenium for well under £10k with a metre square vaccuum bed.
